How Expensive Not To Test? Ask Williams Sonoma

Posted on Jul 1st, 2013 by marybabitz

Williams Sonoma, Inc. has agreed to pay a civil penalty just shy of $1 Million for failing to report defective wooden hammock stands.  The wooden part of the stand would deteriorate when exposed to outdoor conditions, but the failure was not noticeable until the hammock collapsed.   45 people (fortunate enough to be able to lounge in a hammock) experienced the collapse and 12 of those people required medical attention.  It was unclear if any drinks were spilled during any of the hammock collapse incidents.
