The Politics of Reliability Testing
US House of Representatives Committee on Armed Services wants more HALT/HASS testing to identify potential reliability issues in missile defense systems and components.
The Committee recently asked the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) to “conduct an assessment of the value, feasibility, and cost of greater utilization of modern HALT/HASS testing equipment and processes to shorten design and development timelines, reduce system and component testing and lifecycle costs, and enhance reliability of critical missile defense systems and components.”
Cascade TEK and many other proponents of HALT testing would be happy to save tax payer dollars by advising the MDA and the Armed Services Committee that HALT/HASS testing would absolutely enhance the reliability of critical missile defense systems and components.
In basic terms - the bedrock of military testing, MIL-STD 810 is fantastic. But generally speaking, MIL-STD testing simulates what a product will experience in real world use. HALT HASS testing stimulates a product to discover important things like: latent defects, operating limits – seems especially important when dealing with missiles. Cascade TEK’s HALT chambers are ready when you are MDA!
