HALT Testing: Biggest Misconception

Cascade TEK's HALT Expert Charlie Felkins

I had an opportunity to ask Cascade TEK’s HALT Expert, Charlie Felkins HALT related questions.  We hope you find his insight valuable as you consider a HALT Testing Program.

Q:  What is the biggest misconception about halt testing?

A: "That testing BEYOND product specifications does NOT produce any meaningful results, as the product will not be subject to these levels of temperature and vibration in real life situations.  HALT is not meant to simulate real product usage, but to stimulate product weaknesses!  Almost all defects found in a HALT test will eventually show up in the field".

About Charlie:  Cascade TEK’s Colorado HALT customers are in expert hands with HALT veteran Charlie Felkins.  For the last 20 years, Charlie has designed HALT vibration systems, performed HALT/HASS testing for three different HALT chamber manufacturers.  Charlie has presented HALT testing related papers at nine IEEE Accelerated Stress Test conferences.

Upcoming:  HALT Seminar at Cascade TEK Colorado Nov 13 -15

Companies that sign up for HOBBS HALT & HASS Seminar at Cascade TEK on Nov 13-15 will receive 1 free day of HALT Testing off of a regular 3 day program.
